Harris, Biden ignored Hindus across the world: Donald Trump’s Diwali message

Former United States (US) president Donald Trump hit out at President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris for ignoring Hindus across the world and in America. He shared his thoughts in a post on X on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Diwali.

Trump, the current Republican presidential candidate, said Thursday (Oct 31), “I strongly condemn the barbaric violence against Hindus, Christians, and other minorities who are getting attacked and looted by mobs in Bangladesh.”

Trump said that the unrest in Bangladesh would have never happened had he been the US president.

‘Biden, Harris have been a disaster…’

Sharpening his attack on Biden and Harris, Trump said that the president and the vice president “have been a disaster from Israel to Ukraine to our own Southern Border, but we will Make America Strong Again and bring back Peace through Strength!”

“We will also protect Hindu Americans against the anti-religion agenda of the radical left. We will fight for your freedom,” Trump added.

Should he win the November 5 presidential election, Trump pointed out that his administration would strengthen its partnership with India.

“Happy Diwali to All. I hope the Festival of Lights leads to the Victory of Good over Evil!” Trump further said.

The first time Trump spoke about Bangladesh unrest

Friday’s remarks were the first time that Trump spoke about the recent unrest in Bangladesh.

Unrest in Bangladesh began after protests, which began as a student-led movement against public sector job quotas in July, escalated into some of the deadliest unrest since the country’s independence in 1971, resulting in over 700 deaths and numerous injuries.

The violent protests led to Sheikh Hasina resigning from the post of prime minister and fleeing the country. An interim government led by Nobel Peace laureate Muhammad Yunus took charge.

Following Hasina’s resignation, hundreds of Hindu houses, businesses and temples were vandalised. Hindus constitute about 8% of Bangladesh’s 170 million people.
