
EAC-PM chairman & Padma Shri awardee Bibek Debroy passes away at 69
Renowned Indian economist and Chairman of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s Economic Advisory Council, Bibek Debroy passed away at the age of 69.
He was a visionary and a Padma Shri awardee, who made lasting contributions to India’s economic landscape.
He also contributed immensely to the country’s civilisational rejuvenation through his several translations of historical texts.
Debroy made significant contributions to India’s policy-making and Indology and also was a Member of NITI Aayog up to June 5, 2019.
He was honoured with India’s prestigious award, Padma Shri, in 2015 for his remarkable contributions to the lterarture and education of the country.
Following his death, PM Moodi recognised his “indelible mark” on India’s intellectual landscape.
In his post on X, the PM wrote, “Dr Bibek Debroy Ji was a towering scholar, well-versed in diverse domains like economics, history, culture, politics, spirituality and more. Through his works, he left an indelible mark on India’s intellectual landscape. Beyond his contributions to public policy, he enjoyed working on our ancient texts, making them accessible to the youth.”
