India: Rahul Gandhi’s cooking session with Dalit family ahead of Maharashtra polls – WATCH
Ahead of the Maharashtra Assembly polls, Indian National Congress (INC) MP Rahul Gandhi, visited the home of a Dalit farmer in the Kolhapur district of the state and enjoyed a meal there.
A video posted by Gandhi on his X account showed him meeting Ajay Tukaram Sanade and his wife, accompanied by Shahu Patole, the author of the book ‘Dalit Kitchens of Marathwada’.
The Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha took a keen interest in the preparation of the dish and learned more about the “Dalit cuisine”, which according to Patole, not many knew about.
“You said an interesting thing that no one knows what you eat, how you cook it. Which is why I have come here today,” Gandhi said, addressing Patole.
The conversation later veered towards the discrimination faced by the Dalits in the country.
“Talking about Patole ji and the Sanade family’s personal experiences with caste and discrimination, we discussed the lack of awareness about Dalit cuisine and the importance of documentation of this culture,” Gandhi posted on X.
“The constitution gives participation and rights to the Bahujans, and we will protect that constitution. But true inclusion and equality of all in the society will be possible only when every Indian makes efforts with the feeling of brotherhood in his heart,” he added.

Maharashtra assembly polls
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar last month stated that elections in Maharashtra will be conducted before November 26 as the current Assembly’s tenure ends then.
“All political parties have asked us to consider the upcoming festivals while announcing the election dates. I am confident that Maharashtra will actively contribute to the festival of democracy,” said Kumar.
Currently, Gandhi’s Congress sits in the opposition alongside the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) which was ejected out of power following the division of the Shiv Sena party. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar also broke family ties and joined the coalition with BJP which has been in power for more than two years now.
The MVA is yet to announce their seat-sharing arrangement with the Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and Sharad Pawar-led NCP, likely to bargain hard following the good showing in the Lok Sabha polls
