Woman with mental illness found roaming semi-naked in Indore, man held for raping her
A 20-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman with mental disabilities on the streets of Indore in Madhya Pradesh on Tuesday (Oct 22), news agency PTI reported.
The 40-year-old woman was roaming semi-naked on the streets.
The man, Sahil Soni, was arrested after the incident was allegedly captured on CCTV footage.
Indore ADCP Zone-1 Alok Sharma said that the incident occurred on Tuesday and was reportedly recorded on CCTV.
The accused is originally from Sagar and allegedly lured the woman to a secluded area and raped her.
“Yesterday we got information that an unidentified woman who was mentally challenged was raped. A complaint was registered at a local police station following which an FIR was registered in connection with the case,” Sharma said.
Additional DCP Alok Sharma said that the police were alerted by a child who spotted a naked woman wandering in Neelkanth Colony around 3.45 am on Tuesday, News18 reported.
Sharma added that a patrolling Sub-Inspector reached the scene and took the woman to MY Hospital in an ambulance.
He said that Sonu was arrested while wearing the same clothes as in the CCTV footage.
The suspect, Sonu, was produced before a local court Wednesday and was remanded in judicial custody.
According to the investigation, the woman had “walked for about half a kilometre without clothes after being assaulted”, a police officer said.
Later during the investigation, Sonu confessed to being under the influence of drugs on Monday evening. He further said that when he tried to leave, the victim, in distress, followed him.
