Brigadier Mayank Shukla, Commander of 161 Infantry Brigade, said, “Last night we carried out a counter-infiltration operation. For the last few days, our security forces were continuously getting information about the movement of Pakistani terrorists in the Uri sector through our intelligence agencies… On the intervening night of 22 and 23 April, at around 1 am, the Indian army got to know about the presence of terrorists at a launchpad near the Uri nallah. Our surveillance, drones, and ambush parties were redeployed and resited. Terrorists’ movement near the LOC was tracked, and when they crossed the LOC at around 3 am, we ambushed and neutralised two terrorists after a firing that went on for two hours. Sanitisation and search operation was carried out in this dense forest by our security forces. J&K police is trying to identify them. Their weapons were recovered – 2 AK rifles, one 9mm Chinese pistol, magazines and large quantities of ammunition. Additionally, one 10kg IED has also been recovered…”

The Foreign Ministry of Saudi Arabia has condemned the terror attack in Pahalgam that killed at least 27 and injured many.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, and EAM Jaishankar have reached the prime minister’s residence for the Cabinet Committee on Security meet.

An encounter started between terrorists and security forces at the Tangimarg area of Kulgam, in South Kashmir. Two terrorists are believed to be trapped in the area.

In the wake of the terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday (Apr 22) that killed at least 27, a Cabinet Committee meeting on security headed by PM Modi is underway.

In the wake of the deadly terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam on Tuesday (Apr 22) that killed at least 27, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that he has called an all party meeting tomorrow afternoon.

“In the aftermath of the attack in Pahalgam I’ve called an all party meeting tomorrow afternoon. I have sent out letters of invitation to all major political parties, all honourable members of parliament from J&K & the leader of opposition in the J&K assembly,” Omar Abdullah wrote in an X post.

After paying last respects to Syed Adil Hussain Shah, who was killed in Pahalgam terror attack, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said, “We condemn this and express our sympathies to the people who have suffered this shock. Our guests had come from outside to celebrate the holidays. Unfortunately, they have been sent back home in coffins… As I have heard, he (Adil) tried to stop the attack and perhaps even tried to snatch the gun, and that is when he was targeted. We have to take care of this family, we have to help them and I am here to assure them all that the government stands with them and we will do whatever we can for them.”

Following the terror attack in Pahalgam, the railways have announced special trains from Katra to Delhi to accommodate the extra rush.

GM Northern Railway Ashok Kumar Verma said, ” We are running a special train to Delhi which will run from here at 9 pm today. After looking at the demand, we can add more trains.

Uttarakhand DGP Deepam Seth said, “… Red alert has been issued in the entire state. Police teams in all districts have been activated… Strict checks have begun on all inter-district and inter-state barriers. Patrolling has been increased in all places with high footfall. Security of all vital institutions has been increased… Reports are being brought in our control room every one hour. We are regularly talking to officers. Social media is being closely monitored. Uttarakhand Police is fully alert… Preparations for Char Dham Yatra were already underway and we have a complete plan for it. Our QRTs will be ready to deal with any situation. Drones will be used to cover all yatra routes. Intelligence will be on high alert… Our control rooms will be monitoring all CCTV footage from the routes as well as the char dhams…”

Bollywood actor Shah Rukh Khan took to X to express sadness and anger at the deadly terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir’s Pahalgam.

“Words fail to express the sadness and anger at the treachery and inhumane act of violence that has occurred in Pahalgam. In times like these, one can only turn to God and say a prayer for the families that have suffered and express my deepest condolences. May we, as a nation, stand united, strong, and seek justice for this heinous act,” he said in a post on X.

In response to the terror attack, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said, “We lost many innocent lives in the cowardly act in Pahalgam. We are deeply distressed. I express my condolences to the families who lost their loved ones. I want to repeat India’s resolve against terrorism. We have a policy of zero tolerance towards terrorism. I want to assure the countrymen that the government will take every necessary step. We will not only reach the perpetrators of this act but also the actors behind the scenes. The accused will soon see a loud and clear response, I want to assure the country.”

MEA Spox Randhir Jaiswal said in a post on X, “Prime Minister of Nepal KP Sharma Oli, called Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strongly condemn the heinous terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir, and offered his sincere condolences on the loss of precious lives. PM Narendra Modi also conveyed his condolences on the death of a young Nepali national in the terror attack, and underlined that India remains committed to bringing the perpetrators of the brutal terror attack to justice. On Pahalgam terror attack, Ambassador of Israel to India, Reuven Azar said, “…We always have copycats. The criminals always try to find out new ways to intimidate us…We will be more determined and we will invest more in fighting this phenomenon…We (India and Israel) try to cooperate on a broader basis to deal with threats, generally on how to improve the means to fight terrorism…We will continue this cooperation…”

French Minister Francois-Noel Buffet said, “On behalf of the French government, we express our sadness, anger and solidarity in the face of this incident that has occurred and in incidents like these we need to express our solidarity and be together as nations to fight against terrorism…We will not let the people who did this go without any punishment. We will fight against them together.”

On India-France working together to fight against terrorism, he said, “We have already seen this exhibition. Milipol India Exhibition is an example of a step that is being taken against terrorism and it is a common objective for all the countries, so we will come together and fight against it. We also had a conversation on this subject with the Minister and we have definitely decided to exchange information and tactics that can be used against terrorism”

Devajit Saikia, BCCI Secretary, said, “The cricketing community is deeply shocked and anguished by the tragic loss of innocent lives in the gruesome terror attack at Pahalgam yesterday. On behalf of the BCCI, while condemning this ghastly and cowardly act with the strongest possible words, I extend our heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families and prayers for the departed souls.  In sharing their pain and grief, we stand hand in hand at this hour of tragedy.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has canceled his scheduled visit to Kanpur on April 24 following the Pahalgam terror attack. PM Modi was slated to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for development projects valued at over Rs 20,000 crore during the visit.

WION has learned that Amit Shah has left for Delhi from Srinagar. Shah met with the families of the victims and paid his last respects. He also reviewed the security situation at Baisaran in Pahalgam, following yesterday’s terror attack, which claimed many lives.

In the wake of the deadly, several organisations including the Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) and Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) have called for a complete shutdown in Jammu on Wednesday. The bandh call was also given by the Transporters’ Association, Jammu Bar Association and the Congress party.

Australian Prime Minister said in an X post that he has spoken to his “friend” PM Modi and offered condolences on behalf of Australia following the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir. He noted that Australia and India are great friends and “we stand with India at this difficult time”. 

He added that the horrific loss of life of innocent civilians is an act of “senseless violence” which has shocked the world. He said that those responsible must be held to account. 

President of Maldives Mohamed Muizzu said that he is “deeply saddened” and “shocked” by the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam, which killed at least 27 people. Many people are injured. 

Muizzu said that the Government of Maldives remains steadfast in its commitment to combating terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. “Our thoughts are with the victims and their families during this difficult time,” he added. 

Chinese Ambassador to India Xu Feihong said this morning that he is “shocked” by the attack in Pahalgam. She shared deep condolences for the victims and issued sincere sympathies to the injured and the bereaved families. He said that China opposes terrorism of all forms. Many analysts believe that the militants who opened fire at the tourists were linked to a Pakistan-based organisation. And Bejng being an ally of Islamabad, its reaction becomes important. 

Now, Beijing’s foreign ministry has offered “sincere sympathies”. Foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said that China mourns the victims and extends its “sincere sympathies” to the families of the victims and the injured. He added that China “strongly condemns this attack”. 

Indian security officials have said that Lieutenant General Manoj Kumar Katiyar, Army’s Western Commander, visited forward areas of Kathua to review the operational preparedness of the forces in the border district of Jammu and Kashmir. Latest updates have revealed that Lt Gen Katiyar’s visit to the forward areas and hinterland in Kathua comes against the backdrop of continued operations following several encounters with terrorists in March and April this year. 

PM Modi cut short a state visit to Saudi Arabia and returned to India on Wednesday morning. He immediately conducted a meeting with National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval, Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and some other officials, but reports have emerged that his plane deliberately avoided Pakistan air space after the terror attack in Pahalgam. 

Officials have released sketches of three terrorists allegedly involved in the attack.

More than 50 persons from Goa who were on a vacation to Jammu and Kashmir were stranded at hotels in Srinagar after the horrific terror attack in Pahalgam and efforts were on to bring them back, officials said on Wednesday.

Office of J&K CM Omar Abdullah said, “Deeply shocked and anguished by the despicable terrorist attack in Pahalgam yesterday. This barbaric and senseless act of brutality against innocent civilians has no place in our society. We condemn it in the strongest possible terms. 

We mourn the precious lives lost.

No amount of money can ever compensate for the loss of loved ones, but as a mark of support and solidarity, the J&K Government announces an ex-gratia of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the deceased, ₹2 lakh for those seriously injured, and ₹1 lakh for those with minor injuries.

All arrangements for the dignified transport of the victims back to their homes have been made. The injured are being provided the best medical care.

Our hearts go out to the bereaved families. We share in your grief and stand by you in this dark hour. But terror will never break our resolve, and we will not rest until those behind this barbarity are brought to justice.”

NIA officials reach PCR in Srinagar. Likely to take over the investigation of the case.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh is being briefed by the Services chiefs, including Army chief Gen Upendra Dwivedi and Navy chief Admiral Dinesh Tripathi, on the current security situation in the Kashmir valley after the terror attack yesterday in Pahalgam. Top officers have been rushed to the affected areas and local formations have been asked to be on alert and further intensify the counter terrorist operations. Daughter Called at 2:45 PM Yesterday…”Speaking to the media, Sujata’s mother and Bharat Bhushan’s aunt Vimala shared heart-wrenching details about the tragic incident:

“Our daughter called around 2:45 PM yesterday and informed us about the situation. She was previously working in an IT company. It’s been five years since her marriage. Only after her call did we come to know what had happened.

They were asked to show their Aadhaar cards. After confirming their identities, they were shot dead.

They reportedly said, ‘If you say you’re Muslim, we’ll let you go.’ They even told them, ‘Call Modi and ask him to save you.’ They shot my daughter in the head… she was shot in the head until she died.

Hours after the deadly terror attack at Pahalgam in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Tuesday (Apr 22) killed at least 26 people, Pakistan released its first statement claiming that it has “nothing to do” with the incident.

Pakistan’s Defence Minister Khawaja Asif said that, “Pakistan has no link with the Pagalgam terror attack,” asserting that it was a reaction by those who opposed the Indian Central government, citing unrest in regions like Nagaland, Kashmir, and Manipur.

Describing the attack as “homegrown,” he said, “the Central government in India is facing protests in many states, including Nagaland, Manipur, Kashmir, and Chhattisgarh. This is home-grown as the government is exploiting many.”

“We do not support terrorism in any form, and locals should not be a target for terrorists, and we have no doubt about it,” he said.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has called a high-level security meeting at 11:00 am (IST) at the CM residence. The meeting aims to review security arrangements in Punjab, considering the recent terrorist attack in Kashmir. Emphasis will be laid on tightening security measures in the state.

Modi arrived in Delhi on Wednesday morning after cutting short his Saudi Arabia visit. Immediately after his arrival, PM took a briefing meeting at the airport with NSA, Foreign Minister Dr S Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and other officials to discuss the situation.
