Mumbai’s first underground Metro Line 3 kicks off: All you need to know about timings, fares & routes
Mumbai’s first underground metro is here and will be open to the public on Monday (Oct 7), the Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC) said. The Aqua line will connect Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to Aarey Colony JVLR. On October 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the new metro line.
“The metro network in Mumbai has expanded, and the ease of life of the citizens will get a boost! Congratulations to Mumbaikars on the inauguration of Aarey JVLR to BKC route under the first phase of Mumbai Metro Line 3,” Modi wrote on X after the inauguration.
Mumbai Metro Line 3
The Mumbai Metro Line 3, or the Colaba-Bandra-Seepz line stretches 33.5 km long underground. Only the 12.44 km route will be opened to the public. The cost of the project has been calculated at over Rs 32,000 crore.
The metro will complete a total of 96 daily trips on the Aqua line. Each metro train has a capacity of over 2,000 people. The train has a maximum speed of 85 kmph, and runs at an average speed of 35 kmph.
Mumbai Aqua line route
The new route consists of 10 stations: Aarey, Marol Naka, CSMIA T1 (Terminal 1), MIDC, SEEPZ, Sahar Road, CSMIA T2 (Terminal 2), Vidyanagari, Dharavi, and BKC. Apart from the Aarey station, which is at ground level, all stations are underground.
Mumbai Aqua Line timings and fares
Mumbai Aqua Line Metro will be operational between 6:30 am to 10:30 pm on weekdays. On weekends, it will start from 8:30 am to 10:30 pm.
The metro ticket will cost Rs 10 to Rs 50, depending on the stations travelled. The ticket can be purchased from an app or at the counters at the station. The National Common Mobility Card can also be used on all metro lines in the city by the next month.
The metro line is expected to be completely operational by June 2025. It is likely to reduce traffic in the city by as much as 6.5 lakh trips.
